It's a different sense of nostalgia and just like overwhelming joy. I guess just growing up with parents that literally played all those songs throughout their lives in a band for 47 years, I'm born into that wave and live vicariously through the waves that they've been through.īaltin: When you get to play with Robby, do those songs take on added meaning for you because you're playing with the people who did them? That's just how I like to operate and that's the only thing that really matters.īaltin: Do people call you a flower child often? So I'm just like call me a flower child, but it's in my DNA. At the end of the day, it's like love overpowers everything if you allow it to. Just look at "Time Of The Season." It's just focusing on love. like "For What It's Worth," that are definitely more pinpointed to a different kind of view. There are so many songs that pop out at me. Reinhart: I was very inspired by Stevie Wonder's "Off The World," that song in itself, Michael Jackson, Stevie Wonder, Sly, Buffalo Springfield to The Zombies.
So if the lyrics aren't gonna get you, that freaking groove and their voices are gonna put you in another worldly kind of positive state.īaltin: Do you hear all of those influences in Off The Ground?
Everything was just so positive and the groove, is just undeniable. And it's just always like stand up for what you believe in and know that you're worth being your higher self. They stand the test of time and they're blatant, they're not hiding the truth of what message they're trying to perceive. Reinhart: My favorite songs are like "Stand" and "I Cannot Make It." I get chills even just thinking about those songs. To me, he might be the most interesting rock star who ever lived. I found a lot of comfort in their stuff, as well as Beatles and Zeppelin and Sly and all the old stuff for sure.īaltin: I am a huge Sly Stone fan. I'm a huge Nirvana fan, but their stuff kind of consoled me on the other side of it. I've always just been called to listen to that. You know me, everything from the '60s, '70s is just like a light beam for my soul. All their songs are motivating and empowering. Reinhart: Yeah, I would probably listen to Sly and the Family Stone. It depends what kind of energy you want to put out there, but I'd rather be uplifting powerfully.īaltin: What were those songs that would always just put you in a good mood? When we're together, I feel that energy bouncing back and forth. So I'd rather focus on that help people reach their higher selves, their higher consciousness, and just focus on that especially at the shows. That is the bottom line message for everything that I've put out. So I'm trying to overcome what I'm dealing with, spread love and peace however cliche it sounds.
There's a lot of people out there who are told even to feel sadder than they have to be. Reinhart: Yeah, I feel like I have several callings and one of them is to be a light warrior for whoever I can reach. But I think that's why anytime I'm on the stage performing now, whether it's with my band or the big band, it's an even sweeter feeling.īaltin: Was it a conscious thing to make something that would make you move, that would make you dance, that would make you feel good, that would make you want to have a good time? And I had a lot of loss going up too, so it was just cut down. So that when this went down, it certainly made me feel in a somber way this isn't me, at times anyway. But at the same time, I've already known prior to all this craziness happening that if I'm feeling a little down, I have asked myself, "How long has it been since I've sang?" 'Cause that's s a real thing. So I loved the fact that I was able and forced to slow down a bit.
So it was the duality of the two, like slowing down was something I hadn't done for over a decade. Reinhart: I'm a huge believer in the yin and yang of life. I'm ready to do this again."īaltin: Was there a point during lockdown where you realized that you missed the road? I think maybe it's reiterated how much of a part of me performing is so now I come to it with even less nervous kind of tension. I feel strangely more comfortable being up there. Baltin: Is it strange to be back out there and doing these festivals? Did you miss them?
